History
John Berry McFerrin, after whom the park is named, purchased 2.5 acres of land and the house that was on the property from John W. Bryan in 1866 for $12,000. This house stood at the corner of Berry and Meridian.

In 1887 David C and Grace Scales purchased the home from Cynthia McGavock McFerrin, the widow of John. Mrs. Grace Scales is the namesake of Present day Grace St., which runs along the north side of McFerrin Park.
In 1909 the park became a playground. Until its demolition in the early 1950s, the original home, lived in by the Bryan, McFerrin and Scales family, served as the park’s community center.
In the 1970s the Metro Government purchased the Grace Ave. Church of Christ, adding 11.5 acres of land to the park. Today, there is a new community center, basketball courts, a baseball field, playground and lots of open green space.
